“Disappearance” has been subject to literature since 20th century and it is related to social modernization that leads to both deindividuation and identity conflict. Disappearance is sometimes viewed as “escape” in literary works. It is possible to talk about two types of escape in terms of their occurrence; physical and psychological escape. Physical escape takes place when a figure changes his/her place from an insecure place to a secure one due to existential reasons on an occasion threatening his/her life. Psychological escape describes escaping to a virtual world from one’s own identity, threatening reality, and real world etc… Daniel Kehlmann, accepted as an important representative of today’s literature, handles the subject of escape in a satirical way peculiar to himself. This article aims at presenting the types of escape in Kehlmann’s the farthest Place (2001) and Voices of Fame (2009).
