Abstract


THE EFFECT OF GAME- BASED TEACHING ON STUDENTS 'ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE SCIENCE COURSE AND VIEWS
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of using game-based teaching in science education on students' attitudes towards science course. In the study, pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental designs with control group were used. The study was carried out with 36 seventh grade students. There were 18 students in the experimental group and 18 students in the control group. The study was conducted in the fall semester of 2018-2019. In the experimental group, teaching was carried out by games and in the control group traditionally. The quantitative data collection tool of the study is “Attitude Scale towards Science Course” and qualitative tool is “Open-Ended Questionnaire”. At the end of the study, Mann-Whitney U Test results showed that there was a significant difference in attitude test scores of the students. In the analysis of open-ended questionnaire data, it was concluded that the students generally found that learning was fun and that they learned the lesson more easily. Educational games can be used as a material during the lesson or as an implementation in the textbook when it is designed by considering student level, subject-game harmony, achievements, class characteristics.
