Abstract


COMPARISON OF MEDIA LITERACY LEVELS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND CLASS TEACHERS

Tools such as books, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, internet that host the information are called media tools. The ability to produce visual and verbal symbols with media tools is called media literacy. Today, media literacy is not only taught as a lesson, but also it is important to understand mass media, to understand and interpret the messages that these tools intend to give. license period to take the media literacy course for teachers in many researches conducted in Turkey and in the world were considered important and necessary. In this context, the aim of the study is to compare the media literacy level of physical education teachers and the media literacy level of classroom teachers and to determine the media literacy levels of physical education teachers. Descriptive survey method was used in this research. "Media Literacy Leveling Scale" was used in the research. The scale was developed in Karaman and Karataş (2009). The reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.84. The universe of the research consists of physical education and classroom teachers working in Kırşehir in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 317 volunteer teachers selected by random sampling method on the level of media literacy. As a result; media literacy level in women is higher, media literacy level increases as professional seniority increases, media literacy level increases as time to own and use computers increases. The frequency of reading weekly newspapers is seen as the factor affecting media literacy. It was concluded that the classroom literacy levels of classroom teachers are higher than the teachers of physical education and sports branches.
