Abstract

MIDDLE KIZILIRMAK BASIN IN PALEOLITHIC AND NEOLITHIC AGE

As it is known, rivers or waterways with general definition play an important role in human life. Both in the past and today, settlement centers, agricultural areas and population potential are concentrated within the framework of streams and therefore the passageways and roads created by them. In this respect, the Middle Kizilirmak Basin is located on fertile land on a large river and its tributaries. The basin has been the scene of intense settlement since the beginning of prehistoric times. A relative chronology of the prehistoric ages of the middle Kızılirmak Basin, not only of the basin, but also of the prehistoric ages of Central Anatolia, has been obtained through the studies conducted in relation to the prehistoric ages of the Middle Kızılırmak Basin. There are some differences in settlement activities in the Middle Kızılırmak Basin. The first traces of settlement are found in Kayseri, Kırıkkale and Nevşehir regions of the basin during the Paleolithic age. Paleolithic Age settlements and finds were encountered in the research conducted in these provinces. However, when the Neolithic Age, Kayseri and Nevşehir continued in this period without interruption while Kırıkkale and its environs are interrupted.
