Being one of the poets and authors in the 16th century, Asık Celebi wrote a culusiyye of history when Sultan Selim II ascended the throne. It is known that the poets wrote such poems when the sultans ascended the throne. In these verses, where praise was usually listed, poets took the responsibility of conveying social and personal expectations to the public.

In this article, the verse of Asık Celebi, which consists of 17 paragraphs, was analyzed in terms of the historical aspects and symbolic meanings of the images besides the sultan and the praised individual relationship. It was investigated that whether the same images were employed for Selim II and the other individuals that were praised in the poems. It was observed that some of the praise patterns used in the culusiyye were related to historical identity of the sultan and some were only used the Sultan himself. In addition to that, the same images that were used in culusiyye were seen the biography of Sultan Selim II in Asık Celebi’s Meşâ’irü’ş-şu’arâ. As a result, it was found that Asık Celebi used these concepts to legitimize the sultan’s domination.  The main advice of the poet was, the struggle against Safavid like the previous sultan’s did should be continued. It was understood that the purpose of all the general analogy, concepts and images repeated was to reinforce the sultan’s ideal in eyes of the society and the poet.
