Abstract

INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PROPRIOCEPTION AND SERVICE HIT IN ADOLESCENT VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between service hit and proprioception in adolescent female and male volleyball players. 48 volleyball players, 24 men and 24 women between the ages of 12-16, who are actively playing volleyball and able to serve tennis at the Anakent and DSI sports clubs in Samsun participated in the study. Demographic information form developed by the researcher was filled by the participants to the questions posed. Angle repeat test was used for the measurement of proprioception at the shoulder joint angle. Active joint motion sensation was measured during measurement. Baseline 1 ° sensitive digital goniometer was used in the measurements. IBM SPSS Statistics 21 package program was used to analyze the data. Normality testing of data on service hit and deviation angle it was determined that the data made using the Shapiro-Wilk test did not show normal distribution (p?0.001). According to the findings obtained from the study, no relation was determined between the angle of deviation and the number of hits in male and female volleyball players (p>0.05). Although the average of deviation angle of women (2.99 degrees) is better than men (4.27 degrees), it is seen that women (3.38 points) have a lower hit rate than men (3.75 points). According to the results of the research, the service studies performed by men both in terms of physical strength and training were associated with having higher service hit rate than women. In the literature, the number of studies examining the relationship between proprioceptive sensation and hit rate in the shoulder joint has been seen as low. Studies have often been determined as proprioception studies, either to be done after or to prevent injury. Less studies have shown that more studies are needed in this area. Physical education teachers and coaches who work in the field do more work on this, children and adolescent athletes are recommended to do exercises to improve proprioceptive sensation.
