Abstract

ART IN THE WORKS OF ORHAN OKAY’S

Each artist has a different definition of art in his mind, and the artists reveal their works in accordance with the philosophy in this definition. Art for the writer, intellectual and literary historian Orhan Okay; It is connected with the concepts of lies, error or imagination. However, this lie, error and imagination are not used in a negative sense. The concept of “creativity”, which comes to the fore in the given concepts, is seen as a common point with art. All the same, the artist does not produce works that are independent of the outside world and from the facts. The most important source of the artist is again the facts, the world in which he lives. Therefore, the artist always gives his works based on them. No matter how much we use the concept of “individual” for a work of art, a society that nourishes the writer in the background always attracts attention. In this way, the art product represents the nation from which it comes, thus gaining the quality of a national work. The artist's tendencies will, of course, manifest themselves in his works. While creating the artist identity, the artist will be influenced by the conditions and ideology of the period and will create his art from all these accumulations. However, the comments made based on these works may not always be correct. Generalising comments should be avoided. The protection of the artist was also evaluated as a positive approach in Okay’s works. Supporting an artist by the state is important for the efficiency and diversity of art. For this reason, the protection of artists, especially in the Ottoman period, became a tradition, and the artist was both protected and rewarded.
