Abstract

DETERMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONALITY TRAITS AND VOICE TRAINING ACADEMIC ACHIEVMENT WITH ADJECTIVES BASED PERSONALITY TEST

From the moment that human beings are born, they use their voice to express themselves. Voice is both a form of expression and a tool used to meet requirements. Undoubtedly, human voice has a significant role in the transmission of emotions. During the first months, when thinking and behaving in a planned manner did not begin actively, which means, instinctive behavior is at the forefront, the babies use their voices with the best naturally granted technique originated entirely from their birth, that is best suited to their anatomy. The accuracy of this primitive method shall be validated through the fact that, however they are crying all day long, they do not have a lack of voice. The attitudes of an individual within the education process are not the behaviors that emerged instantly but they are the behaviors shaped since their childhood. Present Study is initiated with the question whether the personality factor has a positive or negative influence onto the voice training process and progress. At the Marmara University Ataturk Education Faculty Music Teaching Department, "Adjective Based Personality Test" (Bacanlı et al., 2009) has been applied to 45 students or graduates who had taken the "Individual Voice Training" compulsory course during the first two semesters. To the results of the test, statistical measures have been applied and it has been researched whether there is a significant relationship with the “Individual Voice Training” average scores of the first two semesters’ students separately. According to the outputs of the research study, it is presumed that the level of success shall be increased via applying personality test to the students who selected “Individual Voice Training” course and via setting up the Voice Training Course specific to individuals. As a consequence, the research study is considered to be important from this perspective.
