Abstract

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A FOUR-WEEK ONLINE MINDFULNESS YOGA PRACTICE ON PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) PANDEMIC

New Type Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) disease, which has been occurring in China since December 2019 and defined as a cluster of acute respiratory diseases, has led to the emergence of the COVID-19 crisis in the world. University students, as one of the groups greatly affected by the COVID-19 crisis, have felt intensive psychological distress. This study aimed to apply a four-week online mindfulness yoga practice to undergraduate students and to examine its effectiveness in improving the participants’ psychological health. The research group consisted of 14 undergraduate students. Personal information form and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, one-way repeated measurement ANOVA was used to compare pretest, posttest, and follow-up test scores. According to the results, the participants’ mean depression and stress scores of both posttest and follow-up tests were significantly lower than the pretest. Therefore, it can be concluded that the four-week online mindfulness yoga practice can be effective in improving the psychological health of university students, and this may last at least one month.
