Abstract

MEDIA LITERACY LEVELS OF COACHES

Media are digital and electronic devices that transmit and host information, such as newspapers, magazines, books, radio, TV, the Internet, and all kinds of print media. Media literacy, as the name implies, is the ability to produce visual and verbal symbols from tv, radio, newspapers, magazines, computers and advertisements that appear in our daily lives. Media literacy is important for all people as well as for coaches in order to understand and interpret the world we live on. This research has been prepared in accordance with descriptive relational screening model. The population of the study consists of approximately 235 coaches related to media literacy level of elite coaches in Ankara. In the research, the personal information form formed by the researchers and the Ok Media Literacy Level Determination Scale tarafından developed by Karaman and Karataş (2009) were adapted to the elite trainers in Ankara. The findings were analyzed in SPSS 24 package program. Personal information of the coaches participating in the research and scores obtained from the scale were analyzed by frequency, percentage and arithmetic mean. Cronbach Alpha coefficient was used for reliability of the scale. In the study, unrelated t-test was used according to the gender variable and One Way ANOVA was used to determine the differences between the group averages.Tukey test was used to find the difference group. In general, although there was no significant relationship between some sub-dimensions and media literacy on the basis of the sub-dimensions, a significant relationship was found between the media usage and the duration of internet usage on a factor-based basis. As a result, we can say that coaches have a high level of media literacy.
