Abstract


NASYONAL SOCIALIST PROPAGANDA IN THE CONTEXT OF AESTHETIZATION AND TEATRALIZATION OF POLICY

National socialism was effectively utilized by propaganda method and techniques that starting from the institutionalization of National Socialist German Labour Party. German politics, which would be formed as the new center of the world order, was told at domestically and abroad by benefitting from the whole propaganda tools of the period. Also, posters are considered as the most significant propaganda tools among all. In this study, propaganda posters, describe the period of national socialist, is analyzed by using semiotic analysis that is the one of the methods of the qualitative research. The scope of the study which is specified by the five different themes of propaganda posters based on Roland Barthes’ concepts of semiotic analysis is examined. In addition, theatrical items on posters are interpreted in the sense of scene, frame and perception. The composition of theatrical and aesthetic formations on posters are focused on the purpose of understanding what kind of messages they give. In the conducted analysis, it is concluded that the propaganda blended with the elements of theatrical and aesthetic elements, is configured by Fuehrer. That is, the personality of Adolf Hitler, and the personality of the leader is presented as the concrete form of National socialist ideology. The commitment to the leader and the cause, sacrifices to show, are addressed as determining factors providing privileged German society to reach their natural living space. Also, the usage of theatrical and aesthetic elements on posters, beside of giving meaning to unity and integrity to the masses, deepens the division between we and other.
