Sustainable life is defined as "a lifestyle aiming to reduce the use of natural resources". Sustainable transportation, supports sustainable living by encouraging the use of public transportation instead of private cars and by preferring environmentally friendly transportation types such as walking and cycling for short distances. This study develops an index system that can be used in measurement and evaluation of walkability as an analysis tool within the scope of sustainable urban transportation planning. This index is based on determining variables and weighting coefficients that affect walkability, calculation of walkability score, classification of calculated scores within a certain value range, mapping and interpretation of results. This walkability index method has been used to measure the walkability capacity while accesing to social reinforcement areas.
