“Voluntary Music Events”: A Conceptual Initiative
Music events are the most fundamental element that can be studied by analyzing musical behavior. For the discipline of ethnomusicology, music events have an important place due to containing musical and cultural parameters of the group or community studied. Therefore, classification of musical events and determinations regarding these classifications would guide for music research. However, studies in this subject are not enough to classify contemporary music events. For this reason, a new classification is needed. The aim of this study is to classify music events in which musicians do not obtain the direct financial gain. Therefore, the concept of "voluntary music events" is suggested by this study. In the study, the boundaries of this suggested concept will be framed and as concrete examples of volunteer music events, a few music events will be ethnographically examined and explained.
